"Women... are not encouraged to show their ability. Even in the family, they have to face obstacles and confrontations. If women are given due recognition and encouragement, they will shine with brilliance in all fields and will serve the house,
country, and the entire world gloriously, contributing to the welfare of the entire humanity."
Sister Surekha Vasant
Surekha Vasant came to Bhagavan Sathya Sai Baba at a young age.
Attended Sri Sathya Sai Women’s College Campus at Anantapur to
complete her Junior College (11 & 12th grades) with a full scholarship
provided by Bhagavan. Surekha, along with her husband, hosted the Ventura
Sathya Sai Baba Center at their home for 14 years, during which time she
held the Devotional Coordinator position at the center. She also helped
with editing, formatting and publishing the Bhajan Book for Sub-Region 8
and also led the Women’s Young Adult Group for centers in Ventura and
Santa Barbara counties. In addition, Surekha played a big part in
organizing the Annual Regional Retreats in Montecito, Santa Barbara County.
After completing Masters in Public Health, she worked for a non-profit for
over a decade implementing programs for low income, under privileged communities
in LA County. Surekha is the President of the Sathya Sai Center of Simi Valley
and hosts the center at their home.
Currently she serves as the Region 8 Women’s Coordinator.
"Savitri fought with the God of Death (Yama) and succeeded in getting her husband back to life. Can you find any instance in the scriptures or history where a husband was prepared to do sacrifice for his wife? If the wife is dead, he is ready to have a second marriage. Such unfair things are happening in the world in respect of women. That is why it was decided to celebrate not only 19th November but 19th of every month as Mahila Day."
What does it mean to you when you say Journey to Inner Sai and what is one path that you follow to reach that goal. Each one of us are at a different level of spirituality. Only Swami knows where we are in that spiritual development. If we put the effort, Swami will help and guide us to reach the goal. So, what spiritual practice do you do in this journey to inner Sai?
Spiritual games are a beautiful blend of faith, fun, and fellowship.
They offer women a chance to laugh together, strengthen their bonds,
and grow closer to Swami in a joyful and uplifting way! Through engaging
and faith-filled games, everyone can share lighthearted moments,
build meaningful connections, and gain spiritual encouragement.
Students have to be encouraged to "Follow the Master (the inner voice of Conscience),
Face the Devil (the down-dragging anti-social urges), Fight to the End
(until one is able to overcome the inner foes of lust, anger, greed, undue attachment,
pride and hatred) and Finish the Game (of life on earth).
-Sri Sathya Sai Baba- (Sri Sathya Sai Speaks, Vol 19 (1986)
These four F’s are like four strong pillars that support and guide our lives.
In the same spirit, these spiritual games are not just about enjoyment, but also
about learning, reflection, and putting Swami’s teachings into practice.
It is a wonderful way to share smiles, create lasting memories, and celebrate
sisterhood while keeping Swami at the center.
An art form & a welcoming sign for Goddess Lakshmi, they bring positive energy
and prosperity to the household!
On this wonderful occasion of Women’s Mini Retreat (WMR), we invite you all
beautiful ladies to showcase your talent and creativity while bonding with your
Sai sisters! Please note that this will be a ‘team’ activity.
‘On festive occasions, the place in front of every house was strewn artistically
with rice flour, which was a kind of offering to birds, ants and other insects.
By this means the lesser beings in creation were propitiated.
-Sri Sathya Sai Baba- (Sri Sathya Sai Baba Speaks, Volume 17 (1984))
Life is like a long garland. This garland has two ends, one end is birth and
the other is death. In between these two ends, the garland consists of many
flowers. Your dreams, thoughts, ideas, sorrows, joys and pleasures are the
various flowers that make up this garland.
Make yourselves into a garland, and I shall be the thread holding all the
flowers together. Consider yourselves the children of one mother,
belonging to the human family. Do not give room for differences of race,
creed, and nationality. All belong to the caste of humanity,
the religion of love, and the language of the heart.
- Sri Sathya Sai Baba, November 23, 1995
"Women must realise the enormous power of the mind for good or evil and see that its power is used only for doing good. The mind can make a person a demon or Divine. The mind is under the control of the intellect. The intellect is governed by the Aathma. Self-realisation will bring about control over everything. The dire conditions prevailing in the world are known to everyone. The root cause of all this is the failure of people to realise their inherent divinity. Excessive desires, fuelled by selfishness, are the cause of all troubles. The primary requisite is confidence in one's self. Without that confidence, nothing can be accomplished."
"As today is a sacred day dedicated to women, they should change themselves and help to change the men and the children. They should develop the qualities of sympathy, compassion; love and sacrifice. Study the lives of our great women, who were models of patience, fortitude, compassion and sacrifice. I desire that you should take up the reins of leadership and bring peace and prosperity to the nation by leading ideal lives."
